What is WHOIS privacy and is it free?

When you register a domain, ICANN requires contact details on file, and without protection they can be exposed through WHOIS lookups. Rayname applies privacy protection to eligible TLDs so that public queries return proxy information instead of your real name, email, and address. A small number of country-code TLDs do not allow privacy by registry policy — the domain's management page will indicate this.
